PlantGrow’s award-winning Slug and Snail Barrier is made purely from plants, broken down through our natural process and then super-dried to create a surface that hungry molluscs will not cross. Ringed around the base of a vulnerable plant, it protects the foliage from feeding damage without any of the toxicity of chemical pellets.

The distinction matters. Slug pellets kill indiscriminately, taking with them the many slug and snail species that do useful work composting and recycling decaying plant matter, and removing a food source that ground beetles, thrushes, frogs, toads and hedgehogs all depend on. Our barrier simply keeps molluscs away from the plants you care about and leaves the rest of the garden’s food web intact.

Unlike most barrier products, it also has a second life. Once it has done its job, it biodegrades naturally into the soil and releases nutrients that support healthy growth and strong roots. A slug barrier and a soil improver in one box.

Directions for use: Apply straight from the box to form a ring on the soil or compost surface encircling the stems of the plants you want to protect. The ring should be roughly 10-12cm wide and at least 1cm deep. Top up and reapply as required. Afterwards, leave it to biodegrade or rake it lightly into the surface. Avoid applying to very wet soil or during heavy rainfall. Not suitable for freshly sown seed or small seedlings. Wash your hands after use.

Recommended use: Use through the growing season in borders, pots and containers.
